The Transplant/Leukemia Clinical Coordinator is a professional with working knowledge of hematologic malignancies, leukemia treatment, bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and related protocols and research. This professional is responsible for the coordination of all clinical activities relating to the Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia Program. Works with adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplant to facilitate the planning, organization and workflow of Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia activities.
2. Professionally communicates with referring physicians to facilitate the arrangement of new patient consults with the consult team- provides oversight to insure that patients are appropriately scheduled. Provides the consulting physician with required information to perform a complete consult.
3. Provides patients and family with up to date educational information regarding the transplant and/or leukemia process.
4. Plans and communicates all pre- bone marrow transplant/Leukemia diagnostic testing, education and initiation of treatment. Acts as a liaison to entire transplant and/or Leukemia team regarding patients’ treatment plan as outlined by physicians. Schedules patients in compliance with designated research protocols.
5. Assist patients with housing, insurance, and caregiver needs to progress through transplant process.
6. Provides financial specialist timely pre transplant or pre-treatment information to provide to insurance carriers for authorization of transplant and/or leukemia care.
7. Ensures that all patients and family receive and understand education of the program’s self-care guidelines for transplant and/or leukemia care.
8. Prepares and participates in weekly team meetings and interdisciplinary meetings in an organized professional manner.
9. Communicates effectively with physicians all applicable patient information to facilitate the transplant and/or leukemia treatment process.
10. Participates in all FACT training and compliance.
11. Collects data for quarterly Quality Assurance meeting.
12. Oversees post-transplant and leukemia follow up process.
13. Works effectively with interdisciplinary transplant and leukemia team to provide timely quality care.
REQUIRED:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited program OR Associate’s Degree in an accredited program with 2 year’ experience.
2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia
3. Current (per recommended renewal and/or expiration date) Certification in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) 4. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to be highly motivated and work independently.
5. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
6. Demonstrated skills in use personal computer, including Excel and PowerPoint software
7. Previous experience in oncology, hematology and/or bone marrow transplant.
PREFERRED:
1. Three or more years with previous leukemia and or transplant experience.
2. Certified in oncology or transplant.
